Repeal organizations

As increasing numbers of people became disillusioned with the negative effects of national prohibition in the United States, a variety of repeal organizations emerged. Although some drew their membership from different groups (men, women, lawyers, Republicans, young men, organized labor, etc.), they all opposed the temperance movement and national prohibition.

Repeal organizations included

• Association Against the Prohibition Amendment
• Constitutional Liberty League of Massachusetts (despite the name, this was a nation-wide organization)
• The Crusaders
• Labor's National Committee for Modification of the Volstead Act
• Moderation League of New York (despite the name, this was a nation-wide organization)
• Molly Pitcher Club
• Republican Citizens Committee Against National Prohibition
• United Repeal Council
• Voluntary Committee of Lawyers
• Women's Committee for Repeal of the 18th Amendment
• Women's Moderation Union

Leaders of these organizations included

• Henry Curran
• William H. Stayton
• James Wadsworth
• Henry Joy

• Matthew Woll

Their efforts came to fruition on December 5, 1933, upon the repeal of national prohibition.
