[edit] History

The history of Senses Fail starts with Garrett Zablocki, in 2002 recruiting members through an advertisement on the Internet a year before the formation of the band. The current singer, Buddy Nielsen, read the article and Garrett brought his friend Dave Miller from a band he had played with previously. Later, the bass player Mike Glita, former drummer for Tokyo Rose (band) joined the lineup.[1]

Their first release, on August 16, 2002, was a six-track EP on ECA Records, From the Depths of Dreams. This was re-released on April 29, 2003, on Drive-Thru Records, with two extra tracks. Their first full-length album, Let It Enfold You, was released on September 7, 2004 on Vagrant Records. It was also re-released, with five bonus tracks: three acoustic versions of songs on Let It Enfold You, a new track named American Death and a cover of the song Institutionalized, which was originally by Suicidal Tendencies.

In 2005, the band's web site announced the departure, by mutual agreement, of guitarist Dave Miller. He was replaced by Heath Saraceno, previously the guitarist/vocalist of the band Midtown. Subsequent interviews with band members have made it clear that Miller did not leave voluntarily.[citation needed]

The band has played on the Warped Tour in 2004-06 and the International Taste of Chaos tour in 2006. In November 2006-February 2007, they did a headlining tour with such bands as Saosin, Alexisonfire and The Sleeping, and then completed the North American version of the Taste of Chaos Tour that featured such bands as The Used, 30 Seconds to Mars, Saosin, Chiodos, Aiden, and Evaline. They performed in a number of European festivals (as well as a couple of headlining shows) in April 2007, and played a short U.S. tour (including part of the Zumiez Couch Tour) with From Autumn to Ashes in June.

On October 5, 2007, Senses Fail began a 33-city co-headlining tour with New Found Glory which started in Las Vegas, Nevada. Also in the tour was Set Your Goals. The tour ended on November 24, 2007 in San Diego, California.

On November 13, 2007, Senses Fail released a deluxe version of Still Searching, which featured new art, behind-the-scenes DVD featuring footage from the band's headlining tour last fall, two additional previously digital-only songs, three new songs, and a cover of The Cranberries's song 'Salvation'.[2]

On December 8th, 2007, Senses Fail's bassist Mike Glita left the band to pursue his side project (Knights in Paris). He has announced, on Myspace, that he will join the band Vampire for Hire, now known as Love Automatic, and continue to pursue the side project.

[edit] Current Plans

The band will continue and have started writing for their follow-up album to Still Searching. They played one show on January 24, 2008 in New York at the Knitting Factory. Jason Black of Hot Water Music played bass as a replacement for Mike Glita. Senses Fail are also booked to play the Bamboozle Festival in East Rutherford, New Jersey on May 4.

The band will begin recording their next album in March 2008.

[edit] Trivia

  • The band is mentioned in MC Lars's song "Signing Emo."
  • The title of the song "All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues" is a reference to the title of an episode from the first season of Lost.
  • The song and album "Let It Enfold You" is named after a poem by Charles Bukowski.
  • The song "Institutionalized" is featured in the video games Tony Hawk's American Wasteland. It is a cover of the 1983 hit originally sung by Suicidal Tendencies.
  • Contrary to popular belief, the song "Rum is for Drinking, Not For Burning" is not a quote from, nor a reference to the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.[3] Buddy claimed at an acoustic performance in Warped Tour 2006 that it is a reference to his grandfather, who had a wooden leg, hence the pirate comparisons.
