In Albania, vehicle registration plates are issued by the regional directorates of transport.

The following table sets out the basic structure of vehicle registration plates in Albania:

The regional code is a two-letter abbreviation of a district name. For instance, the abbreviation for the Tirana district is TR. A four-digit number and a letter follow. The letter indicates the order of allocation of each series of numbers. Thus, a plate ending in M will have been more recently released than one ending in L in the same district. Since 2003, a new, smaller font is used. also all these numbers and letters that runs in an alphabetic system in each city tells you the amount of the cars registered in this city, that means that these cars have good title and paper. so if the last letter is z in english alphabetic system, this means that this city have 24x10000=240.000 (two hundred forty thousand) cars.
