This was made using regular tatting of Rings and Chains and also Mignonette Tatting. Mignonette is working with just the Needle & Thread cut off the ball. The rings are made on the thread between the previous rings, so they slide freely. You will need quite a bit of thread to work with, so if your not use to using 6 yards or more, cut it back to about 4 and add on as needed. To help keep your thread from tangling, make sure it is thrown out in a circle. I usually keep mine thrown out around my knees.
This doily was made using size #10 variegated white/pink thread and a #5 needle.

Work rings around the side joining to each picot on the chains. At bottom work the same as the top. Work other side, up.
2nd Round:
Do your first ring, joining on the free thread and work around for one ring on each thread.
3rd Round:
Start at top, making two rings on each top thread. Then work around with one ring on sides for (8) rings. Bottom same as top, work around other side for (8) rings
4th Round:
Work around making one ring on each free thread. (24) single rings.
5th Round:
Two rings on top two threads. Work one ring each around on sides. (10) single.
Two on bottom two threads, work back around sides for (10) singles.
6th Round: Working of the ball to make rings and chains
At the top you will see 3 threads. Make a ring on the right one and Rw
Ch 3ds 3p's separated by 3ds each. Rw
R on the 2nd chain Cl Rw

R on the 3rd top thread Cl Rw
Ch again
R on the side threads you will make a ring - chain - ring on the same thread.
A set of (11) rings down the side.
At the bottom make the 3 separate rings and then work back around other side for (11) sets of rings on the threads.
Lay your piece so that the ring will be going in the shape of the doily, pull your ball thread over and make your measurements over from the last ring made to where your next ring will be. Leave the thread so that it loops a bit more as shown in the picture, try to be consistent on all the thread spaces as you work around.
Now the rings will slide freely on the threads, make sure your rings are even around and if needed Block, starch if desired. Be careful sliding the rings around so you do not stretch the thread. Make sure they are ok before you dampen. DO NOT pull on them once wet.
