© This little guy came about as I was playing around attempting to do something in Celtic Tatting. I have chatted with Wally and she mentioned she was going to be doing something for a celtic class. I hope she gets one started, as I am interested in learning some other ways of doing this. Doing this is not complicated, but you do have to work with a lot of thread and work as if your actually working off the ball. So I measured about two arm lengths of thread and cut it off the ball, then measure down a foot or so to start working the double stitches. This snowflake was made in three parts, center with a mock picot and then the white, dark blue points made then the light blue. This can be made with one needle, but you have to un-thread and re-thread for each unless, you have two same size needles. The dark blue and white were tied together. Depends on the size thread your using. I used about a yard or so of each, cut off ball and white on the needle, making my ring with the blue. | Center: 2ds 11 very small picots sep. by 2ds each, 2ds close making a mock picot. (If your your making the center ring separate, make the ring with 12 picots sep. by 2ds each close and start your next round of white. White chains, 10 ds. skipping every-other picot for 6 chains. | | Next round dark blue, join in free picot. Chain 10ds, floating ring 5 p 5 other half chain 10ds. Skip one white chain and join in next picot over. But at this point all the thread has to be pulled through the white chain, to start the next chain. Work around the same way for three in all. See photo, how the chain is behind the white, and the new chain being made is in front. | | On the third one make sure it is tied in back onto the first chain made. See how the blue is in front of the white first, then behind and has you do the second one it is in front again, behind etc. | | Now in the other picots we will do the same chains of 10 ds and the floating rings. | | Taking the light blue back around the dark blue and up through the white, start the next light blue and work around in same manner for three. |
