Fill your heart with love!!

These Heart Cones can be filled with candy for Valentines Day, or decorated and filled with small flowers to add to your Christmas Tree. Add beads, bows, dried flowers or whatever your imagination can come up with.
Do not decorate until after it is dried, shaped and tied off.

I made two, one full heart and then a heart with no center.
I used a file folder to cut out my cone, by laying the heart on the folder and carefully tracing around the heart. The top one even has the indentations where the chains come from the base of the rings. The second one was traced under the picots, so that the picots show over the top.
It helps to have a cardboard box, lay the paper on the box and then lay your heart on the paper. Use pins to hold the heart down on the paper for easier tracing. Cut out your heart and lay the piece on it to make sure it's ok, and the lace will lay on it properly.

Use a small amount of glue around the edge of the heart. Do not put the glue to heavy as you do not want it to soak through. Let is dry for a second and become tacky, then place your heart on and smooth it around to shape. Let it dry good before doing anything else.

Once it is dry, hold the heart in the palm of your hand, lace down. Using a needle and thread start at the bottom and whip stitch up the back. You will see in the photo I only went about half way up. With the one with no picots, I stitched in a couple double stitches, and with the one with picots I stitched through them.
Look at it your piece, once in a while while sewing up and see how the shape is, once you get it shaped to your liking tie off at that point. Do not try to stitch all the way up.

The handle can be made with a tatted chain, or braid. Or you could use a ribbon and glue it inside the cone. Make sure when adding the handle you try to center it, so it hangs straight.

Now use your imagination and use what ever you like to decorate it. Some of mine, I have used small pearl beads to add to the center of each ring. You can use beads to make little flowers around or even fill in the bare areas. Other types of lace could also be used.
If you make a new heart, you could make it with beads already on it and then add more with glue as you decorate.

Enjoy and have fun, Take care. Roger
