In February 2005, on behalf of Irob Relief and Rehabilitation Operations Brotherhood (IRROB), Inc., the Reverend Tesfamariam Baraki, has presented a check for $500.00 USD to the Board of Directors of Irob Development Association (IDA) in Mekelle, Tigray, Ethiopia. The check was given as a gesture of solidarity and partnership in a common endeavor of empowering the Irob minority group in Ethiopia in their struggle to fight their chronic poverty, recurring droughts, and the epidemic of HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases, such as malaria and tuberculosis, as well as to promote educational and developmental projects in the Irob Wereda.
IDA was founded in 2003 in Mekelle, Tigray, Ethiopia as a nonprofit organization to fight poverty and droughts, and to assist the poverty-and-drought-stricken Irob through sustainable developmental and educational programs to be implemented. IDA headquartered in Mekelle is already in move by establishing chapters in Adigrat and Dawhan (the new administrative town of Irob) and soon hoping to establish a branch office in Addis Ababa.
Presently, IDA, as a new organization, has very little resource to staff and furnish its offices. It only depends on the contributions and volunteerism of its members to further and carry out its activities.
IRROB from the USA, regardless its acute financial shortage and struggle, was very happy to demonstrate its solidarity with IDA by responding to their urgent needs and donating the $500 dollars for the capacity building as our commitment and partnership for the cause of the Irob people.
IRROB is highly interested in supporting and strengthening IDA in order to be able to implement its mission and goals in the Irob area through this partner especially as it grows and becomes effective on the site.
Anyone interested in supporting and strengthening IDA may send their donations to IRROB. We are very happy to transfer your donations to IDA in Ethiopia.
