ReMix: Sonic the Hedgehog 3 'SonikElektronik'
OHYEAH. I hope you've all been working on your robot, because if you can't dance the man-machine something fierce, you'll only be able to listen to Rayza's latest Sonic 3 ReMix in frustration. You gots to get up and move like the men of steel, see, to truly appreciate the 80's electro-robo, vocoding TR-808 beatbox goodness going on. VERY retro. I think Rayza just decided to get all of his 80's angst out in one big sweep. I seriously hope he fluffed up his hair and wore jeans that were way too tight when he wrote this, because it could complete the mental picture perfectly. The ReMixer writes:
"This is a ReMix of the Marble Garden Zone (Act 1) theme from Sonic 3 done in an 80's electro style. I was inspired to write this after watching a movie called Breakin'. I know many people don't like the fade-out style endings on mixes, but this is true to the genre."
I think he nailed the genre perfectly, personally. The original lent itself well to this sort of breakdown, and the final result is something you can picture people in sweatsuits dancing to, with boomboxes the size of small cars on their shoulders. Let's face it, we lost something that was pretty cool when we left the 80's and moved into the 90's, and this mix does a good job of paying homage to that subtle quality with its plethora of staple-food instruments from the era. From the massive bassline to the 808 kit to the pure funkdom, Rayza's come up with something different from his usual gig but every bit as worthy, proven further flexibility, and contributed a very memorable and beatmatic arrangement. Rad!
