Patrick Stump (born Patrick Martin Stumph^[2] on April 27, 1984 in Glenview, Illinois)^[3], is an American musician, composer and producer. Most notably, he is the primary composer, lead singer, rhythm guitarist, and occasional pianist of Fall Out Boy, an American band from Chicago, Illinois. He also has begun producing bands as of late such as Gym Class Heroes, among others. He is son to an American Folk singer and brother to an accomplished violinist. ^[4]

Career

In 2001, Stump co-founded Fall Out Boy with guitarist Joe Trohman and bassist Pete Wentz.

Stump first joined Fall Out Boy as a drummer, but his singing talent was soon discovered even though he had no prior experience as a vocalist. Originally, Stump was only the band's vocalist, but after the departure of two members following the release of Fall Out Boy's Evening Out with Your Girlfriend, he also began playing guitar for the band. At this point, present day drummer Andy Hurley was also brought into the band.

The band's first full-length album Fall Out Boy's Evening Out with Your Girlfriend was released in 2003 on Uprising Records, although they shortly left the label to sign to Fueled By Ramen. They released Take This To Your Grave in May, 2003, their second full-length album which helped them earn a fanbase and some minor success.

In 2003, Stump and his bandmates signed with Island Records and released the acoustic-based EP My Heart Will Always Be the B-Side to My Tongue CD and DVD in 2004. This was followed with their second studio album, From Under The Cork Tree.

In Fall Out Boy, Stump writes the majority of the music for the band, while bassist Pete Wentz writes the majority of the lyrics. Guitarist Joe Trohman said of Patrick, "I guess Patrick is some kind of musical genius -- he's a total mad scientist."

Producer

As a producer, Stump has worked with The Hush Sound on Like Vines and Gym Class Heroes on As Cruel As School Children. He has also produced Cobra Starship's record ^[5] ¡Viva La Cobra!.^[6] He's also produced a track titled "Little Weapon" on Lupe Fiasco's record The Cool^[7], and is said to be currently working in production with The Cab, Tyga, and Gym Class Heroes.

In addition to producing albums, Stump has also remixed various tracks for soundtracks or special releases. These include a "Queen Of Apology" remix for The Sounds on the Snakes on a Plane soundtrack, "Sugar We're Goin Down" remix on the From Under the Cork Tree special edition release for Fall Out Boy, and "Pace Yourself" for The Higher on their album On Fire.

Guest vocal appearances include Gym Class Heroes' "Clothes Off!", and "Cupid's Chokehold",^[8] October Fall's "Second Chances," Knockout's "Breakaway," Motion City Soundtrack's "Everything Is Alright," The Hush Sound's "Don't Wake Me Up," and Misery Signals' "One Day I'll Stay Home". ^[9] Stump and Wentz have both added guest vocals to Damnation A.D.'s song "If You Could Remember" and Timbaland's "One & Only". Stump also makes an appearance on New Found Glory's From the Screen to Your Stereo Part II, in the song "The King Of Wishful Thinking" from Pretty Woman, and is featured notably on the Cobra Starship song "Guilty Pleasure", as well as singing back-up on several others, of their album ¡Viva La Cobra! It has been announced most recently he will be featured in the lead single off "The Roots"'s upcoming album "Rising Down". He also appears on The Cab's new single "One Of Those Nights" along with Brendon Urie of Panic At The Disco

Other Projects

In January 2008, Stump was also a guest star on the televison crime-drama Law & Order on the season 18 2-hour premiere as Marty Dressler, a lowly employee of an electrical company, who is suspected of the kidnapping of the wife and daughter of an executive. The episode, titled "Darkness", aired on January 2, 2008 on NBC. He was not paid for his appearance.^[10]
