Dr. Sree Sree Sree Shivakumara Swamiji (Kannada: ಡಾ. ಶ್ರೀ ಶ್ರೀ ಶ್ರೀ ಶಿವಕುಮಾರ ಸ್ವಾಮೀಜಿ) (born April 1, 1907) is the present head of Sree Siddaganga Mutt in Tumkur District, South India and founder of the Sree Siddaganga Education Society[1]. Dr. Sree Sree Sivakumara Swamiji, the present head of the Math was initiated into viraktashram order in 1930. The driving forces of Sree Swamiji's more than seven decades of service to humanity are hardwork, disciplined life, faith in Humanity and sincerity of purpose to help the poor and the downtrodden. Endowed with collegiate education in English and proficiency in Kannada and Sanskrit, Sree Swamiji has developed educational institutions in which the students are exposed to a wide spectrum of knowledge – from traditional learning of Sanskrit to the modern science and technology. With his catholic outlook Sree Swamiji has earned the goodwill and respect of people of all faiths and communities. In recognition of his social services, Sree Swamiji was adorned with the honorary degree of Doctor of Literature by Karnataka University in 1965. He is committed to the service of humanity with eighteen hour daily work schedule, even at the age of 101.

Born in 1907, Sree Swamiji has devoted more than 75 years to service to humanity,[2] hard work and disciplined life. Endowed with sound collegiate education in English, Sanskrit and Kannada, Sree Swamiji has developed educational institutions in which the students are exposed to a wide spectrum of knowledge: from traditional learning of Sanskrit to the modern science and technology.

Sree Swamiji's Guru Kula houses more than 8500 children of age group 5 to 16 years and is open to children from all religions, castes and creeds, who are provided free food, education and shelter.

Karnataka state government has announced[2] to institute Shivakumara Swamiji Prashasti from the year 2007, the centennial year of the Swamiji.

Dr.A.P.J kalam said the swamiji had established 120 educational institutions, where every teacher had been trained in imparting moral education based on Indian culture and heritage. "I find here the best of teachers who love teaching. The reason is simple - a sage is presiding over these institutions", he said. Lauding the efforts of the Swamiji in steering a great mission of imparting education to millions of poor students, Dr. Kalam said there was no place for pettiness in the system of education adopted. It was tuned to enhance self-respect of an individual and aimed at creating a beautiful and a happy world, he added.

[edit] Karnataka Ratna award

On his centenary Dr. Sree Sree Swamiji, in the year 2007, the Government of Karnataka awarded him the prestigious Karnataka Ratna award, the highest civilian award of the Karnataka state.
