SQL Server Data Services is a cloud-based service from Microsoft offering relational data storage capabilities. It is exposed as a web service that is accessed over HTTP using REST and SOAP protocols.[1] While it uses a Microsoft SQL Server as a backend, it exposes only a subset of the data types, including string, numeric, date and boolean.[2] It uses an XML-based format for data transfer[1] and provides a managed class library to access the service as well as query using Language Integrated Query.
