1961 Minnesota Twins season

After 60 seasons in Washington, playing mostly as the Senators, 1961 was the Twins first year in Minnesota. The Twins were 70-90, seventh in the American League. 1,256,723 fans attended Twins games, the third highest total in the American League. Two Twins made the All-Star Game: first baseman Harmon Killebrew and pitcher Camilo Pascual. Pedro Ramos was the first pitcher to lead the American League in losses for four years in a row. ^[1] The Twins played their first of 21 seasons of home games at Metropolitan Stadium.

• June 1, 1961: Billy Martin was traded by the Milwaukee Braves to the Minnesota Twins for Billy Consolo. ^[2]
• June 1, 1961: Bill Tuttle was traded by the Kansas City Athletics with a player to be named later to the Minnesota Twins for a player to be named later, Reno Bertoia, and Paul Giel. The Minnesota Twins sent cash (June 10, 1961) to the Kansas City Athletics to complete the trade.
