Created in 1974, École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS, School of Higher Technology) is an engineering university member of Université du Québec network. Located in Montreal, the ÉTS is unique in that it was intended specifically for students that have graduated from college technical programs (CEGEP). That is, students who originally wished to pursue a skill trade, but for whatever reason have decided to go to university. The school features cooperative education in all of its undergraduate programs. The bachelor's programs have all been accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB). Each year, the ÉTS graduates the largest number of engineers in Québec.

The ÉTS is currently located at 1100 Notre-Dame Street in Montreal, the site of a former O'keefe Brewery, which was transformed to house the school. It has two (2) buildings devoted to education programs and research activities.

Undergraduate (engineering bachelor's) programs offered at the ÉTS are the following: software engineering, information technology engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automated production engineering, operations and logistics engineering and construction engineering. It also offers multiple master's degree programs and a doctorate in engineering. International students at the masters and doctorate levels are mostly coming from Latino America, Europe, North Africa and Eastern Europe. The main research fields are energy, environment, manufacturing and fabrication, health technologies, entreprises systems, IT, micro-electronics and telecommunications and finally, aerospace manufacturing and avionics.

It is well known for its student-run technical clubs that participate in international competitions. The world's fastest human powered submarine, Omer[1], was developed by one such club. An Autonomous Underwater Vehicle named S.O.N.I.A.[2], a walking robot[3], Eclipse[4] the solar powered car and many others have won countless prizes in international competitions over the years.

The school is represented in Canadian Interuniversity Sport by the ETS Piranhas.

The school's student union (student government) is called the Association des étudiants de l'école de technologie supérieure (AÉÉTS) (The ETS Student Association).
