The '''San''' is a River in south-eastern Poland, a tributary of the Vistula river, with a length of 433 km (6th longest Polish river) and the basin area of 16,861 km² (14,390 km² in Poland). The San rises in the Carpathian_Mountains near the village of Sianki, at an altitude of 900 metres, exactly on the Polish-Ukrainian Border http://www.plfoto.com/zdjecie.php?picture=540333 {{coor dms|49|00|10|N|22|52|30|E|type:waterbody|region:PL|page:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_River}} and continental watershed, and forms the border between Poland and Ukraine for approximately its first 50 km.
''San'' in proto-Indoeuropean_languages, means ''speed'' or ''rapid stream''. In Celtic_languages the word ''San'' means ''River''.
Poland's largest Artificial_lake, Jezioro_Solińskie was created by a Dam in the San near Lesko.
