Catholic University may mean the university founded and operated by the Catholic Church. By a census of the Vatican Congregation for Catholic Education, the total number of catholic universities and university-level institutes around the world is 1,358.

However the following list counts only those universities and institutes having 'catholic' in their school names. In this list, for example, there are only five schools in the USA among her 230 catholic colleges and universities. Likewise there is none in India, in spite of there being nearly three-hundred catholic colleges and institutes.
