Petra Bagust: It's All About Love

For some 11 years, New Zealand television personality Petra Bagust has been in living rooms across New Zealand, presenting such programs as Hot Property, Ice TV, travel.co.nz and Time of Your Life. "If there’s one thing you need to understand about God,” says Petra, “it’s that He loves you. He loves you, He loves you, He loves you!”

Imagine . . . A World Without Christianity

Imagine. “Imagine there’s no heaven . . .” sang John Lennon. “. . . and no religion too.” The implication is that the world would be a better place without religion. Wrong. Christianity has changed the world in dramatic and positive ways.

Mother Knows Best

It has been said that “the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.” And now there is scientific research to back it up! In the January issue of Scientific American an article entitled “The Maternal Brain” reveals amazing things about the brain of the one we call Mother.

The Why, How and When of Baptism

you may be wondering why anyone would choose to be baptised. You may also be wondering just how it should be performed. Despite what you might have heard, baptism isn’t primarily about what you believe, how you behave or even about joining a church.

Trends: No more gaps

I have found the perfect thing for fixing my imperfect carpentry and the uneven effects of weathering. It’s called “No More Gaps.” And it’s just what the occasional handy person like me needs: a generically named filler-glue that describes exactly what we need for those cracks in our work.

Food Matters: No Alcohol in Pregnancy

While debate is ongoing over the safe level of alcohol during pregnancy, a team of psychiatrists in London have argued for total abstinence, due to concerns over behavioural effects.

Dying to Be Thin

Most of us settle into less than perfect forms resulting from less than perfect eating habits. Some, in a desperate attempt to straddle food and fitness, fall into the quagmire of disordered eating. Two very prevalent types of eating disorders are anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.

ABCs of Stress-free Parenting

At its best, parenting can leave a mother or father with a feeling of satisfaction, fulfilment, contentment and pride. However, at its worst, anxious, irritable, overwhelmed and exhausted. Often the difference between is simply in parenting philosophy and style. While it may not be possible to completely eliminate stress in parenting, it can be considerably reduced, allowing more of the joy.

Piggy Bankrupt

A strange turn of events indeed. I came to Vietnam at the behest of the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation to assist with identifying strategies to reduce the burden of diseases such as diabetes, cancer and heart disease. But I leave as a young and ignorant Aussie who has much to learn about generosity, and the true definition of poverty.

Patmos: A Holy Island

It is called “The Holy Island.” The reason? Because on this remote Greek island—the northern-most of the Dodeconese Group—the apostle John, the disciple of Jesus, spent some of his final years as a prisoner, receiving visions, which he recorded as the apocalyptic book of Revelation.

10 Ways to Increase Your Listening Skills

A good listener is always in demand—in business, in social settings and at home. Wilson Mizner, the American dramatist, said: “A good listener is not only popular everywhere, but after awhile, he knows something.”

Steps to Health

Sure, we know we should eat better, but who wants to exist on tofu and bean sprouts? Fear not! You don’t have to forgo the food you know and love to improve your diet—a few simple changes will make a world of difference.

God Delivers a New Earth

Shortly before He left them, Jesus told His disciples that He was going away to His Father’s house to prepare a place for them. “If I go and prepare a place for you,” He said, “I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” We know that Jesus went to heaven when He left this earth, and He’s still there today. And He said that He will come back and take us to be with Him.

Why Volunteer?

Almost five million Australians volunteer every year. They give their time and resources to help others but what’s in it for them?

Holy, Holy, Holy

Brian Edgar once said, “To know God is to be in love; where there is no God, there is no love. Hinduism has karma, Islam has law, Buddhism has the eight-fold path, and secularism has self-improvement, but it is only Christianity which dares to say that we find our salvation and the meaning of life in God’s unconditional love. Love is the answer to the most fundamental questions of human existence.”

Mind Over Matter

I was a sickly child. If I wasn’t catching a humble cold, it was something more exotic, like whooping cough or bronchitis. Adding to this was a constant struggle with asthma. For many years my most faithful companion was a Ventalin puffer, and it became instinctual to reach for it at the first sign of an attack.
