Jimmy Little—Caring for his Country

He was Australia’s first Indigenous pop star and in 1963, had a hit with the song “Royal Telephone,” which became his signature tune. He was a regular performer on “Bandstand” and “The Teen Scene,” and was voted Pop Star of the Year in 1964.

Dietrich Bonhoeffe

On the morning of that day the prisoners were taken from their cells and the verdicts of the court martial read to them. Through the half-open door in the room of the huts, I saw Pastor Bonhoeffer, before taking off his prison garb, kneel on the floor and pray fervently to his God. At the place of execution he again said a short prayer, then climbed 120 steps to the gallows, brave and composed.

Death—and Then What?

What happened to Mum’s three-ring-circus personality? Where is Dad’s humble, dependable spirituality? Are my beloved parents gone forever, like breath on a mirror? Are they disturbed spirits, roaming through some dark forest—and should I be worshipping them and my other ancestors? Or are they somewhere up there, looking down on me, thrilling to my joys and feeling my pain?

The Sign of the Covenant

His people have been called to worship Him. And when we worship, we demonstrate the strength of the covenant between ourselves and our God.

Out-of-Order Attachment

It is a law of life. People who get their happiness from things keep moving from thing to thing, as they pursue the latest fad and fashion. And the next one has to be bigger, glossier, faster and newer, because “new” never lasts.

Unveiling Sky Wonders

Out beyond the Local Group, the Hubble Space Telescope has revealed the existence of between 50 billion and one trillion galaxies. Such figures boggle the mind! Astronomers are not satisfied with the successes of the HST in increasing our knowledge of the universe. A much larger James Webb Space Telescope is now under construction, scheduled for launching in 2013.

Why Studying the “Good Book” is Good for You

Werhas described himself as a “happy man,” who no longer envies his friends. Because of his Bible study, Werhas discovered what countless people before him learned—that through the Bible, we experience God and gain insight into living.

Hints for a Healthy Marriage

Many people would consider a satisfying and fulfilling marriage of 53 years amazing in this day and age. Yet, the truth is that any couple can have an amazing marriage. The key is paying attention to the little things which keep love alive over the decades.

Byte-Sized Lessons with a Major Impact

She had come to the Slacks Creek ADRA Centre to help a struggling friend get a food parcel for her family. Little did Elaine know what a change it would make in her own life.

“Good luck, Grandma”—and Other Camping Adventures

Some people feel the only problem with family holidays is that you’re expected to take the family. When the kids go along to an amusement park, you can bet you’ll end up on the “Twirling Cups of Gastric Distress” instead of the ride you really want, which is the “Palm Trees of Solitude.”
