Shawnigan students enjoy the benefit of a fully wired campus, including
Internet access in every dorm room. Classrooms are equipped
with computer projectors, and there are digital data acquisition
systems in the science department. Three dedicated computer labs and
numerous public computers in residences and in the library make technology both accessible
and available.
Specific courses are available in Design, Computer Assisted Drafting,
and Web Authoring and Computer Science, including University
Level AP courses. Our Fine Arts Programme offers further opportunities
by virtue of instruction in page design (yearbook), digital
art (computer graphics), and video editing (film).
Teachers employ technology in their classes as a way of adding to the
student's experience in a meaningful wayconnecting students
with people, information and experiences they would not otherwise
enjoy. A custom state-of-the-art intranet allows information sharing, collaborating,
and publishing. The school is fully committed to maintaining a leading
role in the use of educational technology, providing state-of-the-art
training for its staff so that they can continue to provide
the best possible experience for each student.
The SLS Information Technology Department maintains and supports the
network (approximately 600 campus and student computers) and is continually
developing new ways for our community to interact. Some of the network management utilities
that have been created "in-house" can be downloaded here.
