Strengths: Portable means of transferring photos without a computer.

Weaknesses: Battery powered;Does not seem to work with any other type of data file

Overall Evaluation: I bought my unit from an authorized Delkin dealer on eBay; it arrived quickly (thankfully) as I am about to go out of the country and wanted to be able to offload video (mp4) files from my Flip MinoHD camera without bringing my laptop along. But after working with this ALL afternoon, I'm very disappointed to say that it didn't work once--for video, that is. (And I tried mov, avi, and mp4 files.) Strangely, it worked as advertised for photos, but ONLY for photos! I even popped in a couple of flash drives with documents files, etc., and it didn't transfer those either! I can't imagine why it would be so picky, but it proves that this does NOT work as advertised. (It says, "will transfer data files by USB"; it should more specifically say "photos only.")

    Duration of ownership:

    Strengths: Small

Weaknesses: Drains Batteries, Doesn't transfer videos

Overall Evaluation: I just got the Delkin USB Bridge today and it doesn't seem to transfer videos from my Canon SD300 to Apple Ipod. I also even tried transferring files with a card reader to my Apple Ipod which still didn't work. I called customer support and they are supposed to get back to me. I will update if it works for video, but now I would not buy this again.

    Duration of ownership:23 Days

Strengths: no computer required, size deck of card, AA battery powered, cost effective, does as advertised!

Weaknesses: SLOW - copies at USB 1 not USB 2 speed, no LCD screen for transfer and verify status (uses LED lights), no battery power status, outer plastic case looks flimsy

Overall Evaluation: I purchased this because I wanted a way to transfer and back up my digital photos while traveling. I do not have a laptop. Even if I did, it would be way too bulky to bring for backup purposes. I wanted to ensure that I backup my photos regularly to my existing USB memory devices. I was able to purchase this from Delkin directly for only $40 (used to be priced about $100).CONFIGURATIONThe USB BRIDGE has 3 buttons: on/off, transfer, and verify. There are 2 LED lights on either side. The blinking and colors will tell you the status. LED lights (green) tell you that the 2 usb devides are connected active. Press the copy button and the 2 LED lights flash red. That means copying. When finished the flashing stops and the LED turns green. To ensure the files were copied properly, press the last (check) button to verify. The 2 LED lights will flash again indicating it's verifying.POWER USAGEThe AA batteries lasted me about 2 1/2 hours of actual USE. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a power remaining indicator, so when it failed to recognize my devices, I knew the battery needed to be replaced.DIRECTORY STRUCTUREThe USB BRIDGE will create a directory in the destination drive "BACKUP001", "BACKUP002" etc. It will backup everyting on the flash drive incl sub directories and folders (even if empty).ALTERNATIVESThe alternatives I considered before buying this was purchasing ezdigimagic and the flashdisk. They have LED screens and can be used to directly copy camera media files to these mini storage devices. However, they cost much more - about $200 to $300. Since I had already invested in USB storage devices, I didn't want to spend another $300 for another portable storage device. This USB BRIDGE is supposed to let me interface to these devices. I was able to purchase the USB BRIDGE directly from Delkin for $40!REAL WORLD USAGE & EXPERIENCEOk here's my experience using this device so far and the different hookup configurations:1) digital camera (dock) with approx 1 GB of files -> USB BRIDGE -> 1 GB Compactflash card on USB2 card reader* The USB BRIDGE was able to recognize both devices. I copied almost 1 GB worth of JPG photos and about 5 mins of mpg4 video from my camera. I didn't time it, but the transfer took an estimated 25 mins. Remember it's USB 1 speed. I then verified and that took another 25 mins. So the copy and verify took a total of 50 mins for 1 GB of data.2) digital camera (dock) with approx 1 GB of files -> USB BRIDGE -> 4 GB Creative MUVO2 MP3 player (micro drive based)* USB BRIDGE recognized both devices. Copy and verify of 1 GB photos took 50 mins total. My Muvo also recognized the USB bridge as a USB device. Total time 25 mins copy & 25 mins verify.3) digital camera (dock) with approx 1 GB of files -> USB BRIDGE -> USB2 1 GB sandisk USB FLASH/thumb drive* USB BRIDGE recognized both devices. Copy and verify of 1 GB photos took 50 mins total.4) digital camera (dock) with approx 1 GB of files -> USB BRIDGE -> 40 GB Western Digital external 2.5" portable hard drive* USB BRIDGE recognized both devices. Copy and verify of 1 GB photos took 50 mins total. NOTE: I tried this setup WITHOUT a power cord on the HD but the USB BRIDGE did not recognize it. For HD based peripherals, make sure they are sufficiently powered. The USB BRIDGE does NOT have enough bus power to power USB devices.RESULTS & CONCLUSIONAfter I got home from vacation, I hooked up the destination drives to my pc. ALL the files were copied! I did not experience any missing nor corrupt files! It worked as advertised. For those of you who want a bridge to copy your files between USB devices, this is a cheap option (for $40 direct from Delkin). I recommend it!FINAL NOTE: the USB BRIDGE does not have enough "port" power to power any USB devices. For microdrives and 2.5" external USB hard drives, make sure they are POWERED. They will NOT work if just connected to the USB BRIDGE. I tried that first with no success. When I powered them (with the proper connections), they worked properly. Also the USB BRIDGE will power itself off after it has not detected any (copy/verify) activity.
