Dabbat al-ard (Arabic: دابة الأرض) is an Arabic phrase meaning beast of the earth. In Islam it is one of the signs preceding the Day of Judgment and is associated with the "second beast" in the Christian eschatalogical work the Revelation of Jesus Christ to John.

[edit] Religious context

The phrase appears in the Qur'an:

(Naml 27:82) And when the word is fulfilled against them (the unjust), We shall produce from the earth a dabba (beast) to face them. It will speak to them, because humankind did not believe with assurance in our signs.

The term also appears in the hadith, which expand upon the activities of the beast.
