Archives Task Force

The Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) was invited by the Department for Culture Media and Sport to establish the Archives Task Force to review the state of archives in the United Kingdom.

The Archives Task Force has undertaken a detailed investigation and analysis of the state of the UK's archives, bringing to fore their immense capacity to change lives. From 2002-03 the Archives Task Force held eight meetings and consulted over 700 people and organisations to gather opinion from those working within archives and from groups and individuals working independently to create, maintain and interpret archival collections on every topic imaginable. In addition, the Archives Task Force received evidence from a wide range of experts and active archive users.

The report of the Archives Task Force and the recommendation that follow from it are on the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council websiteExternal website - link opens in a new window.
