Jay Reatard, Deerhunter Swap Covers on Matador 7"
Awww, ain't that precious? There's young punker Jay Reatard getting cozy with none other than Bradford Cox of Deerhunter and Atlas Sound. But these two aren't just canoodling for the sake of the Sears Portrait Studio. Nope, for the fourth installment in Jay's ongoing 7” series for Matador Records, he and Brad’s band Deerhunter will swap covers of each others' tunes. Jay takes on Deerhunter's "Fluorescent Grey"-- from the EP of the same name-- while Deerhunter does "Oh It's Such a Shame" from Blood Visions.
The disc is due July 22, and supplies are limited, as usual.
That won't be the only slab of vinyl coming out of this lot this summer, of course, as Atlas Sound’s debut LP hits your turntable later this month from Kranky. There's also a new Atlas Sound single out digitally now and due on 7" August 5 from K Records. It features "Atlas Shrugged" on the A-side and Selector Dub Narcotic's take on "Atlas Shrugged", which they're calling "Shrug-a-Dub-Dub', on the flip.
Nor is it time you can see Jay and Brad in such close quarters this summer. In fact, your next shot is coming sooner than you think. Both Jay and Atlas Sound will find themselves at the Pitchfork Music Festival in just a couple weeks. Jay’s got dates before and after, while Bradford will kick off a brief Atlas Sound tour at the fest before taking up with Deerhunter later on in the year.
Just remember all that stuff they said about absence and fondness, fellas.
