The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia
Commission participates in various international activities which cover regulatory
and promotional aspects of its role as regulator and developer of the communications
and multimedia industry. This involves participation in international meetings and
conferences, especially within international organisations such as the Association
of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
and the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT). The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia
Commission also participates in meetings which involve the broadcast sector.
The International Affairs Unit
The consolidation and administration of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia
Commission's international activities is the responsibility of the International
Affairs Unit, which forms part of the Corporate and International Affairs Department
(CIAD). Its functions include to:
a. Develop, recommend and implement the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission's
international policies and programmes;
b. Serve as a focal point for all international activities within the Malaysian Communications
and Multimedia Commission;
c. Represent the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission in international
activities;
d. Promote relations with other countries through collaboration with other regulatory
organisations in the communications and multimedia industry;
e. Enhance Malaysia's presence at international meetings and conferences, and facilitate
opportunities for the exchange of information and experience; and
f. Act as a focal point within the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission
for co-operation and consultation on international matters with other Government
agencies, foreign regulatory organisations and officials of foreign governments.
