[edit] Early career

Boyd was mostly raised by his grandmother, after his parents had marital problems in his early life.[3] After a watershed final year at Palm Beach Currumbin State School, where he was the Australian Schoolboys fullback in 2005, he debuted for Burleigh Bears in the Queensland Cup.

While attending Plam Beach Currumbin, Boyd played for the Australian Schoolboys team in 2005.[4]

[edit] Debut

Boyd made his debut for the Broncos against North Queensland in round 1 of 2006 on the wing and scored a try. He was a solid performer in his rookie season and even had an opportunity to play in his favoured fullback position from round 16 to 24 after Karmichael Hunt fractured a foot bone in round 15. Boyd was a member of the 2006 premiership-winning team and subsequently won the Broncos' rookie of the year award.

[edit] 2007 and beyond

At the beginning of the 2007 season, Boyd was unable to perform to the same standard as he did throughout his rookie season. However, after being moved from the wing to the centres, Boyd began to once again perform consistently.

Boyd started to receive attention from other clubs as he is off contract at the end of this season. However, Boyd decided to exercise an option in his contract which allowed him to stay with the Broncos for one more year until the end of 2009. However taking this extra-year deal may suggest he is happy at the Broncos, chief executive Bruno Cullen said there was a 'whisper' that the star centre could move to Canterbury, alongside fellow Broncos Michael Ennis and Ben Hannant, and also the Dragons following his current coach in Wayne Bennett.

On the 20th of August, it had been officially announced that Darius Boyd will join the St. George Illawarra Dragons on a 3 year deal.[5]

On 15 September 2008, a 24 year old women lodged a formal complaint about a sexual assault two days earlier. The people alleged to be at the centre of the incident were Boyd and Brisbane Broncos team mates Karmichael Hunt and Sam Thaiday. The alleged players are co-operating with police and the outcome is likely to be known by the end of October.[6][7]

[edit] Representative career

Boyd made a strong start to his 2008 season by scoring a hat-trick in round one. After leading the NRL try-scoring table for most of the first half of the season, Boyd got his first Queensland State of Origin call up due to teammate Justin Hodges' suspension.[8] On his debut, Boyd scored two tries, both from passes from inside centre Greg Inglis, in a winning Queendland outfit.[3]

On 16 October, Boyd was called up to the Australian 2008 World Cup squad, again as a replacement for Justin Hodges after Hodges was ruled out with a shoulder injury.
