Bob Conge sent me this sneak peek of an upcoming custom Eyezon figure with Max Toy Co. “Coming very very soon…” I don’t have any more info for you right now (but I can further tease you with news of a forthcoming ToyCyte interview with Bob…), so I’ll present a side-by-side picture of Instinct Toys’ latest Inc Bear. The eyes on Eyezon and the viral creature adorning Inc Bear’s backside (as well as the spikes) have a slim passing resemblance, and each time I look at either of them, they remind me that I want them both (and can probably afford neither).

The sky is falling! The sky is falling! Well not here in our land but in the world of The Woolly Hoodwinks. Featuring a myriad of handcrafted cute plush toys, the new children’s book The Woolly Hoodwinks vs. The Dark Patch, follows the gang as they investigate a piece of sky that had fallen into their homeland.

The creators of the book Asa Sanchez, Phil Dumesnil, Jeff Root and Scott Runcorn will be at Super7 in San Francisco on Friday September 19th at 6pm to celebrate the Woolly Hoodwinks and “for a peek into their handcrafted world”.

I’m not sure if it’s the human hands holding Mr. Bean’s head or the figure’s get-up with the denim vest and that it looks like he’s flashing of gang signs, but man is it creepy!

The epically eyeballed English comic Mr. Bean has been carefully sculpted and painted by Arnie Kim for Enterbay. The figure from the 1/6 Real Masterpiece Series will have the “eyeball system 360”, I guess to create some really interesting Bean-ish expressions.  He’ll be coming out in October and, no he won’t be wearing the cowboy-ish outfit, he will be donning his standard issue suit.

From the Neighborwood platform figures to the beautiful Karimoku Be@rbrick, wood may not be the new vinyl, but it’s definitely a nice alternative. I enjoy both the art and irreverence of David Choe. Perhaps with a nod to the latter, in a scene where designers keep their toys under wraps until they’re ready to drop, Dave dropped an image of his upcoming figure, CHOEGAL, on his blog. The image above is a painted prototype for the figure, which is being produced by Ningyoushi and Upper Playground and is expected to come out before the holidays in an edition of 1000 pieces. The whole figure is made from wood, with multiple moving parts and a head that spins to reveal three different faces. David was so impressed with the quality of the prototype, he enthused:

I thought they were sending me back my original, but this is what they are all gonna look like! a thousand of these fuckers, being hand painted right now! No two the same!, I gave detailed instructions to the factory on how to replicate my multi layered style, and looking at this toy, I can’t even tell the difference from the original, I should just get these fuckers to do all my paintings for me too.

I look forward to seeing the final figure from this talented and outspoken artist.

This was new to me, but can be found (low stock though) at most of the online toy retailers. Rotofugi has it for $80 and says: “Everything from cute to sinister and lots of stuff in-between fill this nice little retrospective design book looking back on the last decade of Devilrobots design. The real attraction though is the insanely cool evil-looking Kubrick set. Pricey…but worth it for Devilrobot fans and Kubrick lovers alike!” The Devil Kubricks are really tight. I’m finding myself lusting after more and more art books lately, and this one is no exception.
