In an effort to help Catholics to become better informed prior to the 2008 elections, experts at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops have developed a series of essays on subjects such as stem cell research, immigration, abortion, the economy and others. The articles are posted at www.livingourfaith.net.

In addition, The Wisconsin Catholic Conference has produced another series based on the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship: A Call to Political Responsibility from the Catholic Bishops of the United States.

The purpose of Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship is to communicate the Church’s teaching that every Catholic is called to active and faith-filled citizenship, based upon a properly informed conscience, so that each disciple of Christ publicly witnesses to the Church’s commitment to human life and dignity with special preference for the poor and the vulnerable.

The documents are titled as follows:

  • Guidelines on Church Involvement in Electoral Politics
  • Forming Consciences I
  • Forming Consciences II
  • Right to Life & Dignity of Human Person
  • Family / Participation / Rights & Responsibilities
  • Option for the Poor & Vulnerable / Dignity of Work & the Rights of Workers
  • Solidarity / Care of God’s Creation

All of the documents are posted at Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship
