Nebraska Initiative 416 (2000)
From Ballotpedia
Initiative 416, also known as the Ban Same Sex Marriage Act, appeared on the November 2000 ballot in Nebraska, where it passed with 70% of the vote. I-416 was an initiated constitutional amendment which secured a place on the ballot through a petition drive. It was one of nine statewide measures on the ballot, seven of which were referred to the ballot by the state legislature. Six of the nine passed.
Initiative 416 amended the Nebraska Constitution to "provide that only marriage between a man and a woman shall be valid or recognized in Nebraska, and to provide that the uniting of two persons of the same sex in a civil union, domestic partnership or other similar same-sex relationship shall not be valid or recognized in Nebraska."
