Of Montreal Push Back Release Date, Get Remixed
Of Montreal did a cool thing a few weeks back when they announced that their forthcoming album Skeletal Lamping would be released not just on CD and vinyl, but as a t-shirt, tote bag, lantern, stickers, and buttons, each accompanied by a digital download.
It was perhaps a little bit too cool of a thing, though, since "the complexity of the design/packaging efforts" has proven too much work to get done before the previously planned October 7 release date. As such, Polyvinyl have now pushed back the release of Skeletal Lamping to October 21.
But there's some sorta new Of Montreal jams coming your way before the month's up, in the form of a white label 12" for first single "Id Engager", due September 30 from Mad Decent. The album version of the tune is bolstered on the new release by remixes from Diplo's Mad Decent crew (which you can hear over in Forkcast right now) and DJ Sega. Sure, it might not fill up the corner of your apartment like that lantern you preordered, but it will fill up the dancefloor, and that's gotta count for something. Oh, and Jon Brion will turn in a remix for album track "An Eluardian Instance" for release on Polyvinyl at a later date.
In other Of Montreal news, the band was recently named "Musicians of the Year" by Harvard University's career-spawning humor publication The Harvard Lampoon. The folks at the Lampoon promise to honor the band with "a ceremony, banquet, and party at the Lampoon Castle" at an as-yet-undetermined date.
Boy, album pushed back, remix release up in the air, no firm date for your trip to Cambridge... what the hell are ya'll doing just sitting around up there? (Kidding!)
