- Rahim Lakhoo gave a talk on Integrating Legacy Applications via Portal Bridges at the NeSC Portals and Portlets 2006 Workshop in Edinburgh, UK, held on 17-18 July, 2006.
- Aamir Shafi presented a paper "An Approach to Buffer Management in Java HPC Messaging" at the International Conference on Computational Science ICCS 2006 in Reading, UK, held on 28-31 May, 2006. The slides can be seen here.
- Mat Grove gave a talk on Tycho: A General Purpose Registry and Asynchronous Messaging System at the Centre for Advanced Computing and Emerging Technologies (ACET) at The University Of Reading, on 28th February 2006.
- Mark Baker gave an keynote talk at the Euro-American Conference on Telematics and Information Systems EATIS 2006 in Santa Martha, Colombia (South America), held on 7-10 February 2006.
- Mark Baker organised the VRE Developers Workshop that was held in Portsmouth at the Queens Hotel on 18th and 19th January. More than forty people attended the workshop; material presented at the workshop can be found on the events Web pages. A collection of photos from the workshop is also available.
- The National Grid Service application, Distributing Multi-Terabyte Sky Survey Database: Experimenting with the SDSS, has been successful. The project has been allocated 5 terabytes of file space. This is a DSG-led proposal involving Portsmouth's Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation and Edinburgh's Wide-Field Astronomy Unit (WFAU).
- The DSG and ICG members enjoyed their Christmas lunch at the Bridge Tavern, Old Portsmouth.
- Mark Baker chaired the panel session at the NW Grid Seminar that was held in Daresbury Laboratory, UK.
- Mark Baker gave a keynote talk at the IGT 2005 Annual Conference, Grid Technologies - Enabling the Dynamic Data Center, Grid, HPC and Infiniband, Hertzelia, Israel, Tuesday 6th December 2005
- Call For Papers, the 2006 International Conference on ComputationalScience and its Applications (ICCSA 2006) Workshop on Technologies and Techniques for Distributed Data Mining, The Hilton Hotel, Glasgow, 8 - 11 May 2006.
- Helen Xiang attended workshops and seminars about Exploiting Diverse Sources of Scientific Data at the National e-Science Centre in November, 2005. She also visited the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh and learned about their archive system. More details can be seen in the trip report.
- The DSG are involved in organising the Workshop on Web Services-based Grid Applications (WSGA) held in conjunction with the 2006 International Conference on Parallel Processing (ICPP-2006). The Call For Papers is open, and there is a submission deadline of 17 February 2006.
- The DSG students have prepared a trip report of the fourth UK e-Science All Hands Meeting (AHM 2005), which was held at the East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham (19/09 - 22/09/2005).
- Mat Grove and Aamir Shafi have been accepted as student volunteers to help at Supercomputing 2005 that will be held in Seattle in November.
- DSG student attended the fourth UK e-Science All Hands Meeting (AHM 2005). Mat Grove and Aamir Shafi presented posters on jGMA and MPJ. Rahim Lakhoo helped demonstrate Sakai VRE tools on the Lancaster Centre of Excellence booth.
- Kashif Iqbal joins the DSG as a part-time PhD student from October 2005. Kashif is a member of the Semantic Web Cluster group at the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI).
- A beta version of MPJ Express (MPJE) has been released.
- Mat Grove gave a talk on Xen - a virtual machine monitor for x86 compatibles at the HantsLUG AGM, University of Southampton, 6th August 2004.
- Melanie Philpot and Rahim (Raz) Lakhoo started as summer students working on the Sakai VRE project.
- Guillermo Taboada, a research student from the University of Coruna, started a visit to the DSG. He will work with Aamir Shafi and Bryan Carpenter on the MPJ project over the coming three months.
- The DSG students have prepared a trip report of CCGrid 2005, which was held in Cardiff, Wales (09/05 - 12/05/2005).
- Mat Grove gave a talk titled 'A Scalable Virtual Registry Service for jGMA' (slides) at CCGrid 2005, Cardiff, 12th May 2005.

- The CCGrid 2005 Work-in-Progress (WiP) programme schedule has now been published.
- Emerging Grid Standards article published in the IEEE magazine Computer.
- Dr Hong Ong will be leaving the DSG next week (w/c 11th April 2005). Here are some photos from his leaving do. We wish him all the the best in his new post at Oak Ridge National Lab., USA.
- The Wiley Book,The Grid: Core Technologies, is now available at all good book stores!
- The OGSA Testbed Workshop was held at Westminster University on 22nd/23rd March. The workshop was a great success, the talks are on line, the digital images are here.
- Various DSG Portals are being hosted on portals.dsg.port.ac.uk.
- Hong Ong gave a talk on LC Portal via GridSphere at the GridSphere and Portlets Workshop, National e-Science Centre (NeSC), Edinburgh, March 03-04, 2005.
- Mat Grove presented a summary of the talks from 2005 Free and Open Software Developer's European Meeting (FOSDEM 2005). The slides are available here, some pictures of the event are on the trip diary page.
- The DSG is organising an OGSA Testbed Workshop, on theExperiences and Observations using the Emerging Grid Infrastructure and Standards for e-Science"at the University of Wesminster on 22nd and 23rd March 2005.
- The DSG have become a partner in the JISC funded Sakai VRE Portal Demonstrator project, which aims to develop a number of tools and services for the framework.
- Workshop on Web and Grid Services for Scientific Data Analysis (WAGSSDA), Paper Submission Deadline Extended to 18 January 2005
- Rich Boakes presented a paper on Unified Information Browsing at the 1st Italian Semantic Web Workshop in Ancona, Italy, 8th December 2004.
- Mark Baker gave a talk at the SIGLaC Half-day meeting series - "Mathematical Aspects of Computation" entitled Smoke and Mirrors: Tales of the Grid, at Leeds University on 8th December 2004.
- Live demonstrations of jGMA (Demo) and GridRM (Demo) were presented in the National e-Science centre booth at the Super Computing 2004 Conference, Pittsburgh, November 6-12, 2004.
- Hong Ong gave a seminar on Web Services' hosting at the GOSC face to face Meeting, National e-Science Centre (NeSC), Edinburgh, October 28-29, 2004.
- The DSG are involved in organising the Call for Work-in-Progress (WiP) Papers on Novel Grid Technologies (NTG) that is associated with CCGrid 2005. The Call For WiP Papers is open, and there is a submission deadline of Monday 21st February 2005.
