Doris May Pearson (born 8 June 1966, Romford, England) is an English singer and ex member of the pop group, Five Star.
Doris Pearson, the eldest of the three Pearson sisters, was mainly known as choreographer of the group, teaching the other members of Five Star the dance routines to their hits. She, like the other members, sang backing vocals and wrote songs for Five Star albums. Her voice was not as strong as Deniece's, but equally as distinctive. She was often the most shy and giggly member of the group in interviews, and was well-known by fans to have a crush on Michael Jackson, with whom she wanted to do a 'dance routine together - on our wedding day' (Five Star Crunchie Tour Souvenir Booklet 1986).
Her first self-penned song, an uptempo pop track "Don't You Know I Love It", appeared as a b-side to their second Top Ten hit, "Can't Wait Another Minute", and later popped up on their multi-million selling 1986 album, Silk And Steel. She also contributed to two consecutive albums, writing one song for each project with brother Delroy. "Knock Twice" from Between The Lines is a funky Janet Jackson-esque track, whilst "Someone's In Love" from Rock the World is straighforward, melodic bubblegum-pop. Her most notable input to a Five Star project came in 1990 when Doris took lead vocal for the first time on a UK single, "Treat Me Like A Lady" and again on its follow-up "Hot Love". (She had previously sung lead on "Someone's...", which had a low key release in the U.S.)
Pearson also wrote and sang a third track "That's the Way I Like It", which followed the usual Five Star song format. The final time Doris appeared as lead vocalist for Five Star was on the Heart and Soul project, released in 1995, for which she contributed another three tracks. "I Give, You Give", notably the most upbeat of the three, was released as a single in that year, and reissued in 1996 as a club remix.
It was around this point Doris decided to no longer be part of the line-up of Five Star in order to concentrate on other personal projects. She did, however, sing two tracks for their 2001 album Eclipse. Whether the vocal was recorded specifically for the project, or taken from an earlier demo recording, is not certain. Shortly after the album's release, Five Star relocated from Los Angeles back to the UK and reformed (minus Doris and Delroy) for UK gigs in 2002.
The group, now a trio, made a minor stir in the media before disbanding again in 2006. In November 2006 Doris revealed through a new MySpace page, that she too had moved back to the UK, and had been writing and recording feverishly since the New Year, with major producers. As well as her own music label, she has also begun other small ventures with renewed vigour after a long time out of the limelight. She is said to be looking forward to 2007 and the opportunities which lie ahead for her as a solo singer.
