'''Francis Robbins Upton''' (1852 in – March_10th 1921 in Orange,_New_York) was an US-American Physicist and Mathematician. ==Biography== Upton was born in Peabody,_Massachusetts. He studied at Bowdoin_College in Brunswick,_Maine, at Princeton_University where he recived his M.S. and in Berlin, where he worked together with Hermann_von_Helmholtz. In 1878 he joined the laboratoey of Thomas_Alva_Edison in Menlo_Park,_New_Jersey. There he dealt with technical problems in a mathematical way, including the Electric_light, the Watt-hour meter, and large dynamos. In October of 1879 the first electric light was presented to the public. He was partner and general manager of the Edison Lamp Works, which he founded together with Edison in 1880. Upton published articles in the Scribner's_Monthly and Scientific_American.
