Subrata Roy also known as Subrata Roy Sahara or Saharasri (1948 - ) was born in "Araria", a small town of Bihar is head of Sahara Group of Business of India.

Subrata started a small para-banking firm in 1978, when he founded Sahara in 1978 with three workers in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. Today, the Sahara Group, which is also known as Sahara India Pariwar, has diversified into a large business conglomerate with foray in housing, entertainment, media industries.

Subroto Roy calls himself as the group's "chief guardian" or "Chief Managing Worker".

Sahara India Financial Corporation Limited [SIFO] forms the backbone of Sahara Group.

Subrata is very famous for his flamboyant lifestyle. He is said to have built a huge private property named Sahara City inside the city of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.[citation needed]

His rise to fame has been noted by his closeness and proximity to Amar Singh a business man politician from Samajwadi Party and Mulayam Singh Yadav the president and founder of the same party.[citation needed]

He married Swapna in the year 1974 and has two sons whose weddings in the 2004 is reportedly one of the most flamboyant and decadent in India and was attended by the Who's Who of indian Elite.[citation needed]
