[edit] Early life

Paola Doimi de Lupis was born in London in 1969. Her father is Louis Doimi de Lupis, later Louis Doimi de Lupis de Frankopan Subich Zrinsky, born in Split in 1939, a member of the Croatian nobility who is also of Italian descent [1]. He is a barrister, and a member of Middle Temple and a businessman. Her Swedish mother, Ingrid Detter, is a lawyer and professor in international law. Paola's father's family had fled to England from Croatia during World War II. Paola studied at Wycombe Abbey School and Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. She also has three brothers; Peter, Nicholas and Lawrence Doimi de Lupis de Frankopan Subic Zrinski.

In February 2000, the family legally added Frankopan to their surname under British law, and adopted the style of Prince and Princess, having started doing so in 1991.[2] The Croatian Nobility Association, a private non-governmental organisation, denied him membership because, while they said he is aristocratic, he had no proof he was related to the Frankopan family, and the editor of the Almanach de Gotha also stated that "it is more an aspirational title than one they have inherited".[2] Paola's brother, Peter, however, said that the "title is not any claim on anything. It is just a reflection of the age of the family"[2]. He said that his family split from the Frankopans in the 14th century.[3]

[edit] Marriage

Doimi di Delupis de Frankopan and Lord Nicholas Windsor met at a party in New York City in 2001[4], and their engagement was announced on 26 September 2006.[5] They married on 4 November 2006 in the Church of Santo Stefano degli Abissini in the Vatican following a civil ceremony on 19 October 2006 in a London register office[6] and she became Lady Nicholas Windsor. This was the first time a member of the extended British Royal Family married at the Vatican. [7]

[edit] Family

Lord and Lady Nicholas Windsor had their first child, a son, Albert, on 22 September 2007 at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London.[8][9] Albert and any further children the couple has will not be titled, will only carry the Windsor surname, the first for a direct male line descendant of George V. The eldest son, Albert, is entitled to use the postnomial title of esquire. At birth Albert was 26th in the line of succession[citation needed] and is also in the line of succession to the Kent Dukedom.
