RFC-791

RFC-791 is the RFC that defines the Internet protocol that runs the entire modern Internet. It started out as a DARPA project some time in the late 1970's and was documented as IPv4 in September of 1981. RFC-791 is one of the most important development projects which led to our ability to communicate via net-based datagram protocol. Although IPv4 will one day be replaced by IPv6, RFC-791 is still a relevant document for defining Internet Protocol datagrams.

RFC-791 replaced RFC-760.
