Patrick G. Duffy (born March 17, 1949) is an American television actor of Irish descent, who has appeared primarily in soap operas and television in character-type roles. The naturally black-haired Duffy is best known for his roles as Larry Hagman's younger, nicer brother and partner, Bobby Ewing, on the immensely popular 1980s CBS drama, Dallas (a role he played from 1978 to 1985 and from 1986 to 1991), and as Suzanne Somers's husband, Frank Lambert, on the long-running 1990s ABC television sitcom, Step by Step. In March 2006 Duffy began playing the role of Stephen Logan on the CBS soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful. Later that year he left the show, but returned on November 5, 2007. As of March 31, 2008, he became the host of the GSN partially interactive game show Bingo America.

In 1976, Duffy landed the role of Mark Harris in the short-lived television series Man from Atlantis, in which he employed his expertise in scuba diving to help develop the fishlike swimming style, consisting entirely of leg and body motion, which he employed in character. (This proved to be a difficult style that he found too exhausting to sustain for long periods.) Following the series' cancellation, he got his big break in the role of Bobby James Ewing on the TV series, Dallas, a role he played until 1991. Duffy parted amicably with the series in 1985, filming a death scene; with both the show and his career foundering, he returned in 1986 in an infamous shower scene that rendered the entire 1985–1986 season "just a dream." A 2004 reunion revealed that, as a teenager, series star Larry Hagman frequently visited Duffy's parents; both were oblivious to this fact until Duffy auditioned for the role. Perhaps not coincidentally, Duffy bonded strongly with Hagman throughout the show's run, despite being 18 years his junior. During this time, he continued to hold a variety of roles in various TV specials.
At the end of Dallas's run in 1991, Duffy switched to another popular television role, as the head of the Lambert family alongside TV wife Suzanne Somers on the family sitcom, Step by Step, a role which ran until the show's cancellation in 1998. He also directed 49 installments, starting with "Boys Will Be Boys," which premiered on December 4th, 1992. During that time, he was also reunited with longtime best friend Larry Hagman in the Dallas reunion movies J.R. Returns and War of the Ewings, the latter of which he also co-produced, reprising the role of Robert "Bobby" Ewing. In an interview on the UK's Mrs. Merton chat show in the late 1990s, Duffy stated that he and Larry Hagman were planning one more Dallas TV movie, but as of early April 2008, this project had failed to materialize; this was believed to be due to the disappointing ratings of the previous movie.
Duffy continued to act in the occasional guest or voice acting appearance, including the shows Family Guy (in which he appeared in a live action scene with Victoria Principal as they spoofed the infamous Dallas shower scene), as well as Justice League and Touched by an Angel.
More recently, Duffy starred in television movies Falling in Love With the Girl Next Door and Desolation Canyon. In 2006, Duffy began a limited run on the daytime soap The Bold and the Beautiful. Duffy recently signed on to star in the comedy He's Such A Girl, which was also slated to star Alexandra Paul from Baywatch. As of early April 2008, Duffy was writing a script for a new Dallas reunion film which, it was hoped, would air on SoapNet. Also as of early April 2008, Patrick began hosting Bingo America, a partially interactive game show, on GSN.
In 1983, he had a hit on the European pop charts with Together We're Strong, a duet with French female singer Mireille Mathieu. In The Netherlands, the single reached number 5 in April, 1983.

Duffy married the former Carlyn Rosser, who was ten years his senior, in a Buddhist ceremony conducted on February 15, 1974. The couple had two sons, Padraic Terrence (b. 1974) and Conor Frederick (b. 1979) and maintained a home near Eagle Point, Oregon. [1] Duffy was an avid collector of antique dolls and children's books. [2] Though a former Catholic and, indeed, named for St. Patrick because he was born on March 17, he converted to Buddhism at the approximate time of his earliest meetings with his wife, who was then a ballet dancer with the First Chamber Dance Company of New York.[3] Duffy suffered from a potentially deadly allergy to the antibiotic penicillin, and as of early April 2008, he still wears a MedicAlert (R) bracelet that alerts doctors to that condition.
Academically, Duffy earned credentials in theater arts that entitled him to teach, graduating from the University of Washington in 1971 with a degree in drama. [4] He ruptured both his vocal cords during his senior year of college, but he created the position of actor-in-residence, where he worked as an interpreter for ballet, opera, and orchestra companies in Washington. He also taught mime and movement classes during this period, during which he met his wife.
His nephew is Major League Baseball pitcher Barry Zito of the San Francisco Giants, whose mother is his wife's sister. [5]
On November 18, 1986 Duffy's parents, Terrance and Marie Duffy, were murdered by Kenneth Miller, who was accompanied by Sean Wentz during the robbery of a Montana bar owned by Duffy's parents. Wentz and Miller, who were teenagers at the time, were convicted of the murders and sentenced to 75 years in prison apiece. In 2001, Kenneth Miller went before the Montana Parole board as Sean Wentz had recanted his story admitting that he was the sole gunman. Miller was denied clemency in 2001, but was released on parole in March 2006. As of April 2008, Sean Wentz is currently serving out his sentence.
