Lupe Fiasco proceeds with 'The Cool'
Hip-hop MC Lupe Fiasco is on a roll supporting his sophomore set, "Lupe Fiasco's The Cool," and he'll continue the push with US tour dates into December.
The Chicago-born rapper, known as a thinking man's wordsmith, has been on the road most of the year, headlining shows and opening for the likes of Kanye West. Fiasco's tour continues tomorrow night (10/17) in Mansfield, MA, and the run is set to visit a dozen cities primarily around the eastern US through Dec. 5. Stops include the Voodoo Music Experience in New Orleans and a host of college venues. Details are listed below.
"Lupe Fiasco's The Cool" surfaced last December, snagging the No. 14 slot on The Billboard 200 and the top spot on the Top Rap Albums chart. With the help of hit single "Superstar," the set has reached gold status for sales exceeding 500,000.
"The Cool" extends the concept-album formula of Fiasco's 2006 Grammy-nominated debut, "Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor." The recordings use several characters to tell the tales of the "damaging influences and corrupt allure of post-millennial Urban America," according to a press release.
Fiasco's latest set features several special guests, including Snoop Dogg, GemStones, Matthew Santos and Nikki Jean, as well as production from Soundtrakk, UNKLE, Chris & Drop, and Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump. Songs and videos from the record are streaming at Fiasco's MySpace page.
Earlier this year, Fiasco took a detour from his busy touring schedule to pick up the "Best Urban/Alternative Performance" Grammy for the single "Daydreamin" featuring Jill Scott.
