DSG Research Projects
Current Research Projects
- Grid Resource Monitor (GridRM):
A resource information management system for the Grid.
- Tycho:
An extensible wide-area messaging framework.
- Message Passing in Java (MPJ) :
A message passing system in pure java which includes Java New I/O device driver, point-to-point
communications , collective communications and a secure runtime that helps starting a parallel
MPJ program on a cluster or network computers.
- Sakai VRE Portal Demonstrator:
A project to extend the Sakai open source and open standards portal framework. It will host a number of integrated tools and robust distributed services and become the principal user interface for a fully-functional Virtual Research Environment (VRE).
- Semantic Log Analysis: A project investigating the use of semantic web technologies to unify distributed system logs and thus provide more comprehensive post-mortem capabilities than may be possible through a naive merge. A web based demonstration is available through rdfx.org (requires login).
Past Projects
- The e-Science OGSA Testbed: An investigation to Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA) middleware, in collaboration with a number of UK universities.
- Universal Information Service Brower (UISB): The overall aim of the UISB project is to provide a means to access and interact with the information services used by a range of distributed environments.
- Java Embedded Micro-kernel (JEM):
A framework capable of dynamically loading Java-based service modules at runtime onto devices
with limited system resources, such as intelligent network cards or PDAs.
- mpiJava:
A Java interface to MPI.
- Grid : An investigation of Grid and portal technologies, in collaboration with the CLRC, UK e-Science programme. Research includes:
- JAMT : A Java Analysis and Monitoring tool based on JAMPI.
- JavaGrande:
An effort to set up a similar organisation to the
US JavaGrande activity.
- Jini and Grid:
An investigation into Jini and Grid integration.
- MPI on NT:
An investigation and review of the various efforts to produce MPI environments
for Windows NT.
