Thurston Moore, Trail of Dead's Keely Get Arty in NYC
I'm not sure what you've heard, but New York City? It's something of a cultural hub. Art, music, dance, theater, semi-nude livestock wranglers; the place has it all in spades. Art and music-- and, hey, maybe that last one there-- will soon converge in Gotham as ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead frontman Conrad Keely and Melissa Auf der Maur exhibit some visual works and Thurston Moore hosts a program of David Bowie videos.
First up is Conrad and Melissa's show, which goes down tonight (October 23) and tonight only at 34 E. 1st Street. The former Hole/Smashing Pumpkins bassist and solo artist Auf der Maur will display her photography, while Conrad will hang up his works in blue ballpoint pen. When we rang up Conrad a little while back to chat about the forthcoming Trail of Dead LP, he noted that he planned to be "spending as much time as I can at home just drawing. It's going to be all ballpoint pen." What's more, the artwork-- and title, perhaps?-- for TOD's new record will be revealed at the show.
Meanwhile, come December 1, Mr. Moore will make his way to the Museum of Modern Art's Roy and Niuta Titus 1 Theater for a showing of many of David Bowie's now-iconic video clips. Moore, who co-organized the event, will play host for the evening as he screens a good cross-section of the videos MoMA received earlier this year as a gift from the David Bowie Archive. The show is part of MoMA's Looking at Music exhibit, which continues through January 5.
