Follow these directions to submit an article for creation.

  1. Check whether the article already exists by searching for it.
  2. Ensure that your topic meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines, including ones for:
  3. Ensure that your article is verifiable and based on published sources.
  4. Click the "Start Here" link below.
  5. Keep in mind that there are a lot of article submissions, and established users may not have time to immediately review your article. Sometimes, due to a large backlog, a submission may not be rejected or accepted for some time.

Registered Wikipedians should follow these detailed directions to review article proposals and (where appropriate) create a new article from an article proposal.

Quick directions (for more experienced reviewers):

  • Pending requests can be found in Category:Pending Afc requests.
  • Verify that the submission is not a copyright violation and meets applicable notability guidelines.
  • If the article looks suitable for Wikipedia:
    1. Create the article by moving it into mainspace and removing the {{subst:AFC pending}} tag.
    2. Leave a reply below the submitted text, noting that the article has been created. You can use the template {{subst:afc accept}} to do this quickly. Be sure to sign your reply with ~~~~.
    3. Add {{subst:Afc talk|Article Name}} to the talk page user who submitted the article, to inform them that their submission was successful.
  • If the article does not look suitable for Wikipedia:
    1. Replace the {{subst:AFC pending}} tag by {{subst:AFC completed}}.
    2. Remove any copyright violations, personal attacks, or patent nonsense from the submission.
    3. Write a quick reply explaining why the article is not appropriate. These templates provide quick responses to common problems. Be sure to sign your reply with ~~~~.
