[edit] Acquisitions

Since the company was spun off in 1999 Expedia performed a number of acquistions even prior to itself being acquired by IAC (at the time USAI).

The acquistions include:

  • TravelScape acquired for $95 million in stock — February 2000
  • VacationSpot.com acquired for $82 million in stock — February 2000
  • Classic Custom Vacations for $52 million in cash and stock — January 2002
  • Metropolitan travel was acquired in July 2002. At that point IAC owned a controlling stake in Expedia, but not the entire company
  • Newtrade technology was acquired in October 2002
  • Activity world was acquired in March 2004 (Hard to find any trace of it now)

[edit] Locations

Expedia, Inc. maintains headquarters in Bellevue, Washington (Sunset North Campus — I-90 corridor). The lease expires in December 2008, when the headquarters will move to downtown Bellevue, WA. At the new location, Expedia has leased 15 floors (3 to 18) of a 20 floor building called Tower 333, currently under construction by Hines.[citation needed] Initially, it was widely speculated that Google wanted to occupy most of the building, but a crane accident in 2006 caused delay and Google backed out of the project.[citation needed]

[edit] Accolades

Recently Expedia featured in the most admired Internet companies in the United States list, released by Fortune. Expedia ranked 3rd, after IAC and Google, and was followed by Amazon.com at 4th place. [5]
