Uvira

Uvira is a city in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the province of Sud-Kivu, located at the north end of Lake Tanganyika. There is a lake port called Kalundu at the southern end of the town, which provides links by boat to Kalemie, Kigoma in Tanzania, and to Bujumbura, the capital of Burundi.
The town is linked by road to Bukavu, as well as to Bujumbura.
Uvira is a Roman-Catholic diocese, a suffragan of the archdiocese of Bukavu.

Uvira was is the former capital of Sud-Kivu Subregion, which was part of the Kivu region during the Mobutu era. Following the creation of Sud-Kivu as a province, the capital was transferred to Bukavu.
Uvira is the headquarter of the newly created Global Congolese community association known in french as Cadre d'Appui aux Actions de Developpment au Congo (CAADEC). CAADEC (www.caadec.org) is framework of networking that links congolese of diaspora and those in Congo for the common goal of sharing ideas and working together to contribute for the greater good of developping their country by supporting individual and collective initiatives that promote community development and job creation as foundation for rebuilding the country.
