Robert J. Carpenter III (born August 1, 1983 in Lancaster, Ohio, USA) is an American football linebacker in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at Ohio State University and was drafted in the first round (18th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft.

Carpenter attended Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Ohio. In addition to being a football standout, Carpenter was also a member of the swim team. During his senior year, Carpenter was selected as All-Ohio first team (football), and also went to the District Finals in swimming.

Carpenter is the son of former New York Giants running back Rob Carpenter. Bobby has three younger brothers, Jonathan (a Graduate Assistant Coach at the University of Cincinnati), Georgie and Nathan. Carpenter and his wife, Cortney, were married March 15, 2008.
