David Beckham is arguably one of the most recognisable faces in Britain. As well as his success on the football pitch, he has amassed incredible wealth, with the help of his wife Victoria, a former singer with the Spice Girls. Together they have marketed the Beckham name so it is synonymous with glamour and fashion, securing them both millions in advertising campaigns and endorsements. However, he comes from modest beginnings. His father, Ted Beckham, a kitchen fitter and Sandra, a hairdresser, were both devoted Manchester United fans. David inherited his parents' love of Manchester United and was passionate about the game from a young age excelling in his chosen sport. He signed his first professional contract with Manchester United in 1992 and made his first Premier League appearance in April 1995.

The midfielder won a place with the England squad in September 1996. However, he hit an all time low following England's defeat in the 1998 World Cup second round in France, when they lost to Argentina on penalties. Journalists and fans blamed him for the loss after he was sent off earlier in the match for kicking an Argentinean player. Despite death threats on his return to England, he weathered the storm and in November 2000 he was made England Captain, a title he held onto for six years. Beckham moved to Real Madrid in 2003 and in 2007 he announced he would be moving to the United States following the signing of a five year deal with LA Galaxy.

In March 2008 he collected his 100th cap for England, only the fifth Englishmen to do so.

He lives in LA with his wife and three boys, Brooklyn, born March 4, 1999 in London, Romeo born September 1, 2002, in London, and Cruz born February 20, 2005, in Madrid, Spain. Since the birth of his first son he has accumulated many tattoos, all the work of Louis Malloy, in Manchester. ¿Mine are all about the people in my life, my wife and my sons who I want with me always,¿ Beckham has said about his body art.

In 2004, reports emerged that David had an affair with his former personal assistant, Rebecca Loos, although he dismissed the accusations as `ludicrous'.
