If I recall correctly, this Tachikoma was in an episode of Ghost in the Shell where the creator of this machine had uploaded his consciousness into it and it went on what appeared to be a rampage. In reality, the dying scientist just wanted to go home and prove to his parents he wasnt a failure...

It really was a sad, touching episode. The Ghost in the Shell TV series is so much better than the movies.
