WHAT: The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the city of Houghton will present plans for the 2009 project to reconstruct US-41 (Sheldon Avenue) in downtown Houghton and extend the US-41 boulevard section through the Michigan Technological University (MTU) campus. This open house meeting will be an opportunity for interested residents and business owners to discuss the details of the project with MDOT and city staff.

BACKGROUND: This $5.2 million project will reconstruct US-41 (Sheldon Avenue) in downtown Houghton with brick pavers, while replacing water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer lines beneath the street. Additionally, the US-41 boulevard section through the MTU campus will be extended to offer increased safety for pedestrians. The project is scheduled to begin in early May and be completed by late October 2009.
