Denmark and England have joined Germany in the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup quarter-finals but France are out after the end of the group stage in New Zealand.

France out
While the other European contenders all led their pools after two games, France's 7-1 loss to Japan left them needing to beat the United States. However, Vicki DiMartino gave the US a 57th-minute lead and although Lea Rubio equalised with 18 minutes to go, France were held 1-1 and are out on goal difference. Japan beat Paraguay 7-2 to top Group C.

England relief
Taking on Japan on Sunday will be England, who went through despite losing 3-0 to South Korea. A 2-2 draw between Nigeria and Brazil ensured England finished second in Group D behind South Korea, who will meet the US in the other Hamilton quarter-final.

Denmark safe
Both the games in Wellington the previous day will involve European teams. Denmark secured the point they needed to progress from Group A with a 0-0 draw against Canada, meaning Bent Eriksen's side pipped their rivals to first place on goal difference. Hosts New Zealand beat Colombia 3-1 but had needed either Denmark or Canada to lose to have a chance of remaining in the competition.

Germany top
European champions Germany were already through from Group B and a 1-1 draw against North Korea ensured first place, and a quarter-final against Canada. Alexandra Popp had given Germany a third-minute lead but Jon Myong-Hwa equalised after the break. The point took North Korea through to a meeting with Denmark despite Ghana's 1-0 win against Costa Rica. The winner of Denmark's quarter-final will play the victors in England's game, with Germany or Canada to face Japan or the US.
