Paul Ince has been dismissed as manager of Blackburn Rovers FC following a board meeting on Monday with chairman John Williams saying the club were "in real danger" of becoming stranded in the Premier League relegation zone.

Grim form
The 41-year-old Ince was appointed on a three-year contract in the summer, replacing Manchester City FC-bound Mark Hughes following a spell as coach of MK Dons FC. The one-time England midfielder has failed to live up to expectations at Ewood Park, though, with his side second from bottom in the 20-team table, having not won a league fixture since 27 September.

'He is a fighter'
Williams said: "Three wins in 17 games has seen a squad which finished seventh last season fall to 19th position. We are currently in real danger of becoming detached from the pack. The survival of the club in the Premier League is paramount and our focus now is on finding a replacement who will be able to maintain our top-division status. Paul will bounce back. He is a fighter and we wish him well."
