| The Tjejmilen Marathon Sweden's biggest sporting event for women Every year, 24,000 women from 15 different countries meet in Stockholm for the Tjejmilen, Sweden's biggest sporting event for women. The Tjejmilen is a marathon race and a fun run. Participants can choose whether they are going to run in the Competition Class or in the Fun Run. Everyone can participate on their own terms and run at their own pace. Tjemilen is one of those races where all finishers are true winners! The Tjejmilen course is 10 km long, mostly on a flat, paved surface, and easy to run. Each kilometre is indicated by a sign. There are four refreshment stations along the course where water and sports drink are served. There are also many bands playing music and creating a joyful atmosphere for runners and spectators. The Tjejmilen starts and finishes at the Gärdet in Stockholm and goes all around the beautiful scenery of the Royal National Park, the Djurgården. The course starts first on a wide and flat road and then continues across a water canal, passing later on in front of King Karl XIV Johan's Rosendal Castle and the National Museum of Cultural History. The old oaks of the park and the views of the city gives a nice relaxed atmosphere to the runners. Thousands of spectators are waiting for the brave runners at the finish. The runners can check their course time on the clock displayed at the finish area. All finishers receive an exclusive commemorative golden medal and are awarded with a well deserved Swedish Cheesecake, ice cream, fruit, juice and coffee.
