FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Map, News) - State police closed a 10-mile section of Interstate 69 just north of Fort Wayne because of numerous accidents and treacherous driving conditions.

State police Sgt. Max Webber says the area was hit Friday morning by hail and rain that froze on the highway, causing numerous accidents.

Authorities, meanwhile, have reopened the Indiana Toll Road after closing the highway for several hours because of icy conditions, but motorists were still being advised to stay off the road.

In Hamilton County, north of Indianapolis, sheriff's deputies say two people died in a crash on an icy state road. The accident occurred on Indiana 37, one of eight crashes on a stretch of the road that prompted authorities to shut it down until conditions improved.
