Get organic at Urth Caffe

December 31, 9:17 AM

One of the many foam designs by Urth Caffe (Source)
One of my favorite lunch spots in LA has to be Urth Caffe in Beverly Hills.  With a great outside patio, I always go to Urth Caffé to grab some hearty soup or a gourmet sandwich.  The portions are large; prices are a bit expensive (but for the quality of the food and the portions, I’d say it’s worth it), and the neighborhood is nice and great for outside dining.

The coffee at Urth Caffe is exceptional – they always top off their coffee with a cute foam design on the top!  I prefer their cappuccinos or a nice café latte – and cups are a nice coffee house size and they offer many different organic flavors.  What I like best about Urth Caffe is the amount of different options they offer in all aspects of their menu.  From coffee to tea to soups to sandwiches to salads to pastries, you can always find something to fill your appetite at Urth Caffe.

One of my favorite soups to order is the tomato rice soup and the vegetarian chili.  The soups are really hearty and a great size – you can order just a bowl of soup and be full for the rest of the afternoon.  The flavors of the tomato rice soup are really delicious and it always sooths and warms my soul every time I order.  For sandwiches, I prefer the chicken curry sandwich.  The sandwiches are really big and hearty – a full sandwich would fill even the largest appetite.  So that I don’t get overwhelmed with the food, I’d suggest half a sandwich and soup – so you can get the best of both worlds.  The curry sandwich contains chicken, raisons, onions, and celery in a light curry.  The curry is not overwhelming and the flavors are really delicious.  Half of a sandwich costs around $9, whereas a full sandwich costs $12, but for those with a regular sized appetite, I’d suggest just going for the half sandwich since it’s more than enough food to finish.

For those not in the mood for soup or sandwiches, Urth Caffe offers a lot of different varieties of food on their menu.  Urth Caffe offers tostada salads, rice wraps, quesadillas, lasagna, hummus, quiches and paninis.  Most of the items on the menu are around $10-$13, but all of the plates are large and enough to share with a friend.

If you find yourself salivating over the desserts and pastries (and it’s not hard, you have to pass them while you wait in line), I’d suggest a slice of their flourless chocolate cake.  Their pastries are to die for, and if I didn’t care about nutrition at all, you’d be sure I’d have had eaten all of them by now.  I usually find myself too full to try any dessert but one day I’m going to save room and have coffee, lunch and dessert all in one sitting!

In all, I love going to Urth Caffe for a nice relaxing lunch any time of the week.  The outdoor patio makes it great to meet friends or go by yourself and read a book.  Urth Caffe tends to be really crowded at peak times, but I’ve never had a hard time finding a table.  The bussers come out and are very quick to turn over tables, and the food is really hearty and delicious.  If you catch yourself in the neighborhood and want a cute cafe to go to, I’d suggest Urth Caffe for all your sandwich and salad needs.

Final Thoughts:

Overall: Dishes are a little expensive, but the organic ingredients along with the portions make it worth it.

Atmosphere: Cute place to go for a nice relaxing lunch.

“mmmmm” factor (out of 5 m’s): mmmm
